Together we cry
by Jessica Quah, 18, Uplands school.
When things don’t feel right,
when there’s something wrong somewhere but
you can’t quite put a name to it.
When it seems like the facade is crumbling
faster than you can build it back up,
when the truth starts shattering home.
When you thought you knew what to do,
when it all becomes heart-rendingly clear
that you don’t.
When you need,
when you wish,
when you know it’s not happening.
For the moment of dread-laced anticipation,
every aching heartbeat,
each second of numb impact.
For scar tissue
and bad dreams,
for silent questions that aren’t answered.
For everything
that you know but wish you didn’t
and for something
that we’re all trying to find but can’t.
For the things nobody knows, and
for the things everyone remembers.
In memory of what we used to be, and
in hope of what we will become.
